We offer German courses at different language levels and special courses "German for professional purposes"!
The language levels are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Read more about the CEFR.

Basic User
A - Elementary language use for Beginners
A1 is the introduction to a new language
At the end of the course you can introduce yourself, ask simple questions and give answers. (Topics e.g. family, living etc.)
A2 gives you the basics of the language
At the end of the course you can communicate in routine situations. You can talk about your background, education, work, etc.
Independent User
B - Independent language use for advanced learners
B1 is the transition to the intermediate level
At the end of the course you can talk about personal experiences, interests, hopes and goals. You can justify and explain in discussions.
B2 is the foundation for more complex content
At the end of the course you can understand complex and abstract texts. You can express yourself spontaneously and fluently on a wide range of topics and explain your point of view on current issues.
(B2 is a requirement for many German-language degree programmes at FHWS).
Proficient User
C - Proficient use of language and subject-specific immersion
C1 leads to competent action in the foreign language
At the end of the course you will be able to express yourself fluently and with a wide vocabulary, in a structured and detailed way. You can use the language flexibly and competently in social and professional life.
(C1 is a requirement for a TWIN certificate from the FHWS).
Special courses "German for the profession" at B2/C1 level
These specialised language courses are aimed specifically at FHWS students. They deepen German skills at B2/C1 level and expand vocabulary in the respective fields of engineering, economics or social work.
What else you should know!
Requirements for participation
You should have already reached the respective previous level and feel confident enough to move on to the next level. However, it is not necessary to prove that you have reached the previous level in order to take part in the course.

Language certificates
We hand out FHWS language certificates and UNICert® certificates as well as certificates of attendance.

Do you need a language certificate? We also offer exams without a course.

Course fee incl. exam:
FHWS students: 150,00€
FHWS student applicants with letter of admission: 150,00€
FHWS student applicants without letter of admission: 300,00€
External course participants: 300,00€
Examination fees without course participation:
Students and applicants with notification of admission
Examination in an ongoing course: 150,00€
Separate examination at level A1 - A2: 180,00€
Separate examination at level B1 - C1: 295,00€
Non-students of FHWS & applicants without letter of admission
Examination in an ongoing course: 300,00€
Separate exam at level A1 - A2: 460,00€
Separate examination at level B1 - C1: 500,00€

Study/work-related courses: approx. 4 months
Summer semester: End of March - beginning of July
Winter semester: Mid-October - Mid-January
Intensive courses: approx. 5 - 6 weeks

Registration Period:
10.03. - 20.03. for semester courses.
(late registration possible until 31.03. if there are still spots available)
10.07. - 20.07. for intensive courses
(late registrations possible until 31.07. if there are still spots available)
Cancellations are only possible up to 2 weeks after registration!

Registration Period:
25.09. - 05.10. for semester courses.
(late registrations possible until 26.10. if there are still spots available)
20.01. - 31.01. for intensive courses
(late registrations possible until 07.02. if there are still spots available)
Cancellations are only possible up to 2 weeks after registration or up to 3 weeks before course start!
