Institute for Power Engineering and High Voltage Technology

The Institute for Power Engineering and High Voltage Technology (IEHT) was founded on 1 October 2011 at FHWS and forms part of the Competence Centre Mainfranken at the department in Schweinfurt. It serves as technological interface between the laboratories of the institute, the power engineering and high voltage technology laboratories of the faculties, the Technology Transfer Centre for E-mobility as well as external project partners.

The structure of the institute consists of Prof. Dr. Andreas Küchler (head of the institute), the project managers and project teams. Project managers are professors, who supervise power engineering or high voltage technology projects. Project teams comprise project engineers, laboratory personnel, PhD students, MA students, student assistants. This structure helps avoiding a strict separation, joins the competences in the fields of power engineering and high voltage technology and promotes a dynamic development.

The objective of the IEHT is to intensify applied research and promote the combination thereof with academic education at FHWS. Amongst the scientific objectives are, above all, the preservation and systematic development of existing scientific competences and excellency as well as the systematic improvement of research continuity. In this process, the IEHT is intended to serve as an interface both externally for national and international networking and for the interdisciplinary networking within the university. The idea is to interconnect research and teaching on all levels of academic education and to involve students in research projects and, in doing so, to teach future experts and leaders problem-solving skills and the latest application and research knowledge.
